This bibliography lists a small portion of the recommended materials anyone seriously wishing to research the Laffite story. The list below is a continuation of book titles compiled by Laffite Society member Robert Vogel, "Jean Laffite in American Literature; A Check List of Published Works Through 1958", which was published in two parts in The Laffite Society Chronicles. Part I of II - The Nineteenth Century was included in Volume II, Number 2 (July, 1996) and Part II of II - The Twentieth Century was included in Volume III, Number 1 (January, 1997).

1961 The Baratarians and the Battle of New Orleans Jane Lucas DeGrummond Louisiana State University Press. This book examines of the role Jean Laffite and Pierre Laffite and their cohorts aiding the efforts of General Andrew Jackson against the British army at the Battle of New Orleans on January 8, 1815.
1994 Journal of Jean Laffite Jean Laffite Dogwood Press. A facsimile of the Journal as published by John A. Laffite in 1958 (Vantage Press). The original manuscript is in the collection at the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center in Liberty, Texas.
1996 Jean Laffite, Prince of Pirates Jack C. Ramsay, Jr Eakin Press, Austin. The first biography about Jean Laffite written in many years, Ramsay tells the story of Laffite's life from Barataria to Galveston and Mugeres Islands.
1999 The Memoirs of Jean Laffite Jean Laffite,

Xlibris Corp. The most recent translation of the Journal of Jean Lafitte.
2001 Privateers of the Gulf Stanley Faye Dogwood Press. The account of Jean and Pierre Laffite and their relations with the new government of Louisiana, the Spanish who still dominated the area outside the U.S., the Mexican Revolution and the government in Washington. After many years of research Faye wrote the manuscript in 1928 and failing to get it published tried to get his friend J. Frank Dobie, to assist in getting it accepted. It was never published and the Dobie trust gave the manuscript to the University of Texas where it has remained.
2003 French in Texas Francois Lagarde University of Texas Press. This contains article "French Pirates and Privateers in Texas" by Laffite Society member R. Dale Olson. A collection of articles detailing the lasting contributions to Texas history and culture by French settlers.
2005 The Pirates Laffite,
The Treacherous World of the Corsairs of the Gulf
William C. Davis Harcourt Press. A well researched tale of piracy in New Orleans and the Gulf of Mexico in the early years of the United States.
2006 The Pirates Laffite Rubio Mane
translated from the original Spanish by Laffite Society member, Jeff Modzelewski. The only known English translation of Mane's 1938 book, Los Pirates Lafitte.
